SolarEdge Thermostat
Lead Designer in this project. Our team researched 'How to use' and 'learning reviews' videos for competitive products, focusing primarily on Nest and Ecobee. We explored various visual representations for sliders, central to the thermostat's interaction.
We interviewed several thermostat user from different regions of Europe and the US market, to gather insights on their main interactions with the product, their favorite features, and their dislikes. We developed numerous interaction designs, considering the hardware, user behavior, SolarEdge branding, and integration with mySolarEdge applications, ultimately narrowing it down to this design.

Barbara from NYC feedback
Purchasing Manager, Female, Age about 30
Lived in Connecticut had a hydro heating system with a simple thermostat and window AC for summer
Living in N. Jersey with a Traditional wall thermostat, use it constantly
She understands the advantage of scheduling but it is very hard to define in the traditional thermostat and therefore she almost doesn't use it
Which color does she prefer (White/Black) -
She would choose to buy the White because it blends better in the house
She thinks the black looks better
Which Temp Bar (Horizontal/Vertical) -
She would choose Horizontal, which reminds her of the open screen swipe on the iPhone
She thinks the vertical is more intuitive with higher Temp up, Lower Temp down
Standby screen
In first look the Temp looked like set point temp instead of room Temp
Display design options:

After reviewing all design options – which design do they prefer and why
Home screen - It was clear and she was able to correctly identify all icons including "leaf"
She understood the "off schedule" message but the icon didn't look like a button
It wasn't clear how to change the mode of operation, tried to change the Temp thinking it would cause eventually to change in the mode of operation
Auto mode of operation was clear
The "quick away" icon wasn't clear
